I have a passion for the horse and for art. I have combined the two to devote my artistic talents to capturing the beauty, the grace, the strength and elegance of the horse. I love all breeds of horse from the Arabians to the Clydesdale and all horses in between. I love the challenge of capturing the unique personality I am commissioned to portray. I work in a variety of mediums but find drawing horses in graphite or charcoal brings out their complexity through the mediums simplicity. With just paper and pencil I can capture the tiniest of details that makes each horse unique. I love horses and I love what I do. I have true passion for the both.
I also can paint horses with acrylic or pastel depending on which medium best suits the subject. I do try to stay focused on drawing or painting horses but I also like to capture "the horse way of life". This fall I plan to do an entire series devoted to the special way of life us horse people lead. Early foggy mornings, with coffee cup in hand, heading to the barn to feed, water, and clean stalls. I own an Arabian mare and hope to add a friend for her in the spring.
I give each client my everything, treating each subject as if it were the ONLY subject. I am available via email or by phone to discuss having your horse become my subject. I live in West Virginia but can use any photo/photos you provide to create a one of a kind momento you will cherish forever. I can work from live subjects but prefer to draw from photos. If I were to make a trip to your farm it would be to take pictures and get a feel for the subject up close and in person not so much to sit and sketch.
Rates are very reasonable for the quality you will receive. Prices range from $100 and up depending on the size, detail & medium you wish for me to use. Although I prefer to work in graphite/charcoal I am also available for pastels and acrylic paintings.
The Woman I will Be....
I shall wear diamonds and a wide brimmed straw hat with ribbons and flowers on it
And I shall spend my social security on white wine and carrots
And sit in the alley of my barn and listen to my horses breathe.
I will sneak out in the middle of a summer's night
And ride the dappled mare across the moonstruck meadow,
if my old bones will allow. and when people come to call,
I will smile and nod, As I walk them past the gardens to the barn And show,
instead, the flowers growing there
In stalls fresh-lined with straw.
I will shovel and sweat and wear hay in my hair as if it were a jewel.
And I will be an embarrassment of all who look down on me
Who have not yet found the peace in being free To love a horse as a friend,
a friend who waits at midnight hour
With muzzle and nicker and patient eyes
For the Woman I will be when I am old.
"Even as a young child I have always been inspired by the amazing animal called the horse. The special way in which they are delicate yet strong, powerful yet gentle, wild yet refined all at the same time. There is something just very special between the bond between a horse and its human friend. Something I as an artist wish to capture for you.I don't know if there truly are "Horse Whisperers" or if in fact the truly successful horseman/woman is more of a "Horse Listener" responding to what the horse is telling them maybe more so than what they are telling the horse."
I would love to capture your special equine friend through my artistic talents. Like I have said before there are a variety of sizes and mediums we can work in. I do request a brief interview before starting the work. It is a time where you tell me about your horse, the special little things, that make he/or she unique and any special requests for the picture. Examples would be placing the horses name on its halter, removing out buildings or other things from the background so that I can meet or hopefully surpass your expectations on completion.
My work is not limited to horses, I can also work with children, other animals, people and places.
You can reach my studio Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM EST
If after hours leave me a message and I will return your call or email me at:
